Honda Classic 2021 picks with John Wood, long-time caddie and NBC announcer

Episode Summary

What an exciting week at the Players—we had NBC/Golf Channel’s John Wood join us to recap the action and preview the Honda Classic. Wood dishes a little on what players and caddies actually think about The Players … should it actually be a fifth major? Do players care? The former PGA Tour caddie joins us live from PGA National to break down this week’s field and explain what type of player should succeed this week in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Episode Notes

We were fortunate to be joined by John Wood, long-time caddie on the PGA Tour for Hunter Mahan, Matt Kuchar, Kevin Sutherland and others. Wood is now on the broadcast team for NBC and has been on-site the past few weeks—like he is this week. He joined us from PGA National to give us some crucial insights into how the Champion course might play a little differently than people expect—and he explains the type of player who should play well this week (in addition to giving us a player to watch this week). (14:33)

Wood also recaps the action from The Players with us, after Justin Thomas’ big-time victory, which was a huge win for the gambling community, including our Christopher Powers, who followed JT on Sunday. We wrap up an exciting week at TPC Sawgrass before we get into our Honda Classic picks (29:54).

Be sure to check GolfDigest.com for our weekly experts picks column—where we have Pat Mayo, Rick Gehman, Brandon Gdula and an anonymous tour caddie providing picks (for free!) every week. And we’re on a roll, picking four of the past six winners.
